5 basic commands for network troubleshooting


Network administrators must be able to monitor and resolve network disruptions. In fact, network administrators must be able to detect network problems before they occur. Network troubleshooting is a systematic process that is applied to solve problems on the network.
Here are 5 basic command prompt commands to detect and diagnose problems on the network.



1.Ipconfig
   Ipconfig is one of the internal commands in Command Prompt (CMD) that functions to view and     configure network device settings. The purpose of Ipconfig in the addition of the word / all is to         provide or display a connection configuration information, for example Host Name, Primary DNS       Type, Ethernet LAN Adapter.

2. Ping

    Ping is an abbreviation of Packet InterNet Groper, where ping is a utility used to verify whether a        network data packet is capable or not when the packet is distributed to an address without error.          The Ping utility is commonly used to check network errors. If Ping does not reach its destination        due to an error or because it is being blocked, the sending computer displays a timed out error              request or does not indicate the packet received.

3.Tracert
Tracert is a command to show the route the packet takes to reach its destination. This is done by sending an Internet Control Message Protocol (ICMP) Echo Request message to the destination with an increasingly Time to Live value. The route shown is a list of router interfaces (the closest to the host) contained in the path between the host and destination.

4. Nslookup
   Nslookup is a tool used to find out the ip of a domain. Nslookup is often used to diagnose network problems related to dns.

5. Netstat
Netstat is a text based program that functions to monitor network connections on a computer, be it a local network (LAN) or internet network. When do I need netstat? for example, when you are on the internet then suddenly the connection becomes very slow and you suspect there are programs on your computer that are the cause. If that is the case for you then you need to call the netstat program to check.

1.Create a new virtual machine
2. Give a name for the virtual machine with OS type

10.Now, click settings,choose cd/dvdroom, mount cd/dvd drive by chooses iso image             file,click ok

11.Click network,choose adapter 1,click enable. in the option Attached to,choose Host-           only Adapter,klik ok (activates adapter 2,3,4 if you want more adapter running in your       virtual machine)

12.Click Start

13.Install mikrotik packages

14.After packages installed, click device,unmount cd/dvdroom then press enter button
     to reboot

15.Now you have to login to your mikrotik virtual machine

18.For remote your mikrotik virtual machine with winbox,you must use virtual box                    console command to set winbox port.Open the command prompt, Types cd\

19.Types cd "Program Files\Sun\VirtualBox",then Types VBoxManage setextradata                   mikrotikvirtual "VBoxInternal/Devices/pcnet/0/LUN#0/Config/winbox/HostPort" 8291
     Notes: mikrotikvirtual is a virtual machine name that I make in my virtualbox (point           2).Accomodates with your virtual machine name.

23.Before remote with winbox,set ip address in virtualbox host only network adapter.

24.Fill for ip address,netmask and gateway (the gateway ip address is mikrotik virtual             machine ip address, that you’ve create)

25.Ping to mikrotik virtual machine

26.Now, open winbox,then connect

Ok.lets start :
1.open your virtualbox

2.create new virtual machine

3.give a name for your virtual machine

4.set base memory size

5.create new boot hardisk

6.click next to virtual disk wizard

7.select hardisk storage type

8.select virtual disk location and size

9.finally,click finish to start backtrack on virtualbox


10.now,go to setting your backtrack iso format,click setting


11.select cd/dvc room to mount backtrack image

12.add your backtrack image file



13.then,click start to begin backtrack

14.boot is running
